Accepted a job with Wilton as a cake decorator. She decorated cakes and cookies for product packaging and publications including the 2011 and 2012 Wilton Yearbooks. Icing Smiles is a nonprofit organization that provides custom celebration cakes and other treats to families impacted by the critical illness of a child. We understand that the simple things, like a birthday cake, are luxuries to a family battling illness. Our goal is to create a custom cake for the ill child, or their sibling, that provides a temporary escape from worry and creates a positive memory during a difficult time.
Memories have magical powers. Long after the cake is gone, the memories linger – memories of the kindness of a stranger, of the art of the design, of the sweet smells of a special treat, of the smiles and laughs, of a normal childhood experience so often stolen from these children. These memories are why we say, “It is so much more than a cake.”
We are not a bakery, as a matter of fact, Icing Smiles doesn’t even have an oven! We rely on a generous team of volunteers spread throughout the U.S. to fulfill our mission.

- I fell in love with the DoughEZ the second I saw a tutorial online on how to use the system. I quickly ordered mine and haven’t looked back since. I used to dread rolling out dough because of the insane floury mess that was involved every time. Not only has it eliminated the need for extra flour, it has completely taken the guess work out of dough thickness and baking times. Every cookie I cut out is uniform in thickness which means I can get an even bake every time!!

When the economy began to suffer and her assistant teacher position was reduced to part time, Maria Celina began once again to create the cakes and confections that were her passion. She wanted to show her son Francisco and daughter Camila that to succeed in the country that had welcomed her with open arms, it would take personal effort, discipline, honesty and dedication to work. This conviction was what gave life to Camila’s Cakes.

After mastering the pastry bag and bestowing countless cookies on her husband Mike she started to receive requests from friends and family members to make shortbread cookies for them and their special occasions. In 2009, The Tailored Cookie was born. After being encouraged to go into business for herself she dove in feet first and continues to enjoy being elbow deep in cookie batter.

As it happens, this weekend was the first time I got to use the DoughEZ mat. I’m very happy with it, although my cookie dough does stick to it a bit. I wrote a post for my blog about my experience using 3 different cookie dough recipes. In case it is of any help to you.
